I would be amiss in not giving credit where it's due. Craigandmicki and Realspear and others have been very instrumental in us getting our PT Residency.

We followed the instructions in the article "Demistifying" along with input from others here and have pretty much completed the bureaucracy and red tape required to be legal in PT.

We used the recipe of joining AFPOP in order to get a group health insurance policy with Medal as the broker and Allianz as the insurer. We also insured a car and a motorcycle with them.

All in all it's been a bit challenging but not brain surgery. Anyone can do this themselves and doing it yourself will yield other valuable facets of living in PT. It will help immerse you into the country you came to become a part of.

Last but not least, Thank You All. We could have not done this so easily, had we not had guidance from this website to guide us.

All you have to do is read and follow instructions.

To 'Wallvester': We appreciate your message of thanks us and our fellow bloggers on this site. You have such a positive outlook. You've learned so much about the Portuguese culture and certainly tested and expanded your own adaptability by taking on the visa process. You've also been a reliable and enjoyable sharer of lessons learned. Thanks right back at you.

Congrats that you got "stuff" done.

Last may/June, Allaintz/Medal insisted that I have a NIF before I could get my private medical insurance. It took a lawyer several attempts to get my NIF, But once I had it, getting the medical insurance was a turnkey operation.
