We left esencial things in America and was hard to find a reliable and not so expensive company to bring those belongings. If you have a recommendation we appreciate the information.

Regards,

Natalie

Heard about Julia and based on her credentials (KPMG etc) she is a very knowledgeable person.
http://www.mtcp.pt

My gripe with a lot of tax accountants - they charge absolutely exuberant prices for people who live off mostly social security income (like it or not - not all of people moving to the different courtiers are fat cats - I think mostly, other reasons aside, these are people who were not fortunate enough to amass government/teachers' pension or get rich off bubble stock market fueled by free money)

So, when I see that tax accountant charges "min 987 EURO for no matter what tax return I just cross them off my list - they lack the often overlooked "human factor" and even though I can afford it - I am NOT giving them my business)

I do not know what Julie charges (another gripe - why not to post approximate "ranges"), but when have to I'll inquire and hope she will be the one who can differentiate clients and not just milk them)

Also, when I will find one handed accountant - I will happily report it on this forums.

I am curious if there is a tax software in Portugal similar to TurboTax in US (was unable to find one)

I know people who use upakweship and liked them. When I moved, which was a while ago, nobody brought them up.

If you want the best tax advice, try Julia Filipe at Master Tax Consultants. Excellent knowledge of the rules, processes, and what non-Portuguese are required to do. However, expecting different tax accountants to say the same thing is a bit much. It certainly doesn't happen much in the US; my taxes were quite different when I changed accountants a few years back despite income and expenses being very similar.

The only income that is not taxed under the current NHR scheme is pension income from government employment. This is not social security as some people want to believe.

Also, although everyone refers to 10%, capital gains and income are taxed differently. The income taxation is more complicated as it depends on the classification of work. An accountant is the best source for this although there are plenty of reference documents on the Finanças site.

Portugal is far more organized and consistent than Italy and far less than Finland. It's the nature of the culture, and people who want certainty and consistency probably won't do well. The experiences of people going through the immigration process attests to this, even two people in the same office will give different answers. But that's part of living here.

I, personally, did not use any as I do not value things, but friend of mine used
https://upakweship.com
and they had no problem and mentioned that there were multiple choices available.

I was reluctant to post the link because my posts are getting attacked lately.

@realspear - you and dancebert and very few others are very helpful, but I noticed that same questions are getting asked again and again and again and even you hinting to new users asking the same questions (without my rude directness "read the forum first") that people need to do their own research as none will tell them what THEY like, so - why there are no similar to “demystifying …” sidebar writeups on few main topics on interests?

This recent "fixed income" discussion is a great illustration - sadly - even official documents sighted do not clearly specify what is what and quite open for interpretation. (you sighted the best references – thank you!)

Another topic - social security and 401k taxation which are NOT pensions - has anyone tried to request explanation from Portuguese tax authorities? Common belief - 10% tax, then someone says: 'It is class H income hence not taxed under NHR" - that is all so non-beneficial - I find it hard to believe that (and you said it before on a different topic) - people have to speculate.
I personally contacted 3 tax accountants – the score is 2:1 – in the matter of taxes I need unanimous answer – not speculation.

Is that how disorganized life in Portugal is (then it is a torture in this respect) - or those who have answers backed by clear documents are no longer here? Or there are no answers and only “what side of the bed responding authority woke up at”?

Stopping right here as usual non-useful suspects will crawl from wherever and accuse me of not being respectful to ...whatever...or having financial interests or worse yet I will get censored again.
