Any advice would be appreciated as we are new to expat & my husband is only on single status. We are contemplating joining him prior to obtaining family status. Is this a good idea? I can only find tourist perspective on Doha. I would like a more personal perspective. Thank you.

Hi, hope the following is of some help to you.
My husband and I ( plus 3 children arrived here 8 years ago ( initially for 1 year)I had never lived abroad before and was very nervous of the event.I bought with me 1 large box of books to read, and they are still unopened. I now have no wish to return to the U.K., for the following reasons:-
Schools- Brilliant, children are very safe and not influenced by designer society. They have time to 'be children'
rather than'small adults'
Qatari's- very friendly, kind and generous
Weather- great most of the year , only very hot in summer, but O.K. due to use of A/C units
Social Life-excellant, but realistically will take you 2/3 months to become settled into good social life
At one time Qatar was considered a 'hardship posting', but this is no longer so,as most of the things you would want to buy are now available here. We now have Carfour, BHS,marks and Spencers, J.C. Penny etc.
I would suggest you book your ticket as soon as possible, I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
I have never regretted the move here!
If you require specific info on any matter please contact me.
Best Regards
M.
