Hi! I'm a Malaysian moving to Sweden in June with my Swedish husband for good.
We are seriously looking for a reasonably priced house or apartment an hour from Lund, Stockholm or Malmo (its supposed to be cheaper, the further away it is from the city). I'm racked up about this move. I'm leaving behind family and friends I have known all my life to my husband's country and honestly I don't know alot of people. I'll die if I cant have a ladies club or friends (not necessarily Swedish) to go out and do stuff with!!!
Knowing that I wont be able to get a job because I cant read or write Swedish yet, I'm starting a company providing relocation, housing and retirement services for Europeans to Malaysia and later on Asia. Hopefully things work out. *S*

Hi! I know how you feel. Ten years ago I moved from Sweden to the USA with my husband. It was quite a culture shock and difficult to adjust in the beginning. Anyway, a good place to start looking for a place to live is www.hemnet.se. They have all types of property listings from all parts of Sweden. It will give you a general idea about what's out there along with prices etc. A good way to meet people (at least initially), especially people in your situation who have also recently moved to Sweden, is at Swedish language courses at schools like Folkuniversitet, folkhogskolor, Komvux etc. My husbund attended one of those one summer that we spent in Sweden and got to know quite a lot of people from many different countries. Also, I came across a website for Malaysian expats living in Sweden: www.malaysianslivinginsweden.com.
I hope this information is helpful and I wish you good luck! A

Hello, I just arrived in Gothenburg from San Diego. Similar situation, met a swede on a foreign work assignment..married, left behind my career and viola...now I have been here 8 weeks and I cannot express the culture shock. I don't want to sound rude, but life here is rather dull. the swedes have no idea what customer service is, parking is a nightmare, the food bland, and the people are all bout formaility ( initially). Try networking with groups ( there are many here in the same boat) clubs like the canadian club or the american club will help make the transition easier...if you are seriously career minded be prepared to work your ass off and don't expect the same position you had at home ( industry wise) I left my position with FOX as a news reporter and have deep regrets, although my love for my man will carry me through this tough time. Keep using the internet, network and keep your options open. Good luck...if you want to email me feel free at.... [email protected] ...wishing you tremendous success..if your open minded you will have no problem.....me..well, i think the swedes can learn a thing or too...but we won't go there:)
