Plan on Moving to Sweden for Art School, Need Help in What to Expect. Please?

Hi,
I plan on moving to Europe permanently this fall with my mother arrriving sometime later. She's been to Sweden before and loved it. I've never been, but I would be making the first step (or giant leap across the Atlantic, blindfolded...) and find a new home for us. I don't speak any Swedish though, except from what I've learned from IKEA's murals. I am aiming for Goteborg since I plan on attending HDK the following year after I become somewhat fluent or even just proficient in Swedish. But, naturally, I am terrified of the move. I don't have friends or family there, so I would be arriving without even knowing where to start looking for an apartment. I also don't even know where I can go to learn Swedish. It's an adventure, for sure, not to mention exciting to move to a foreign country. You know, the type of excitement you feel when having cardiac arrest and you don't know if you will die or not.
So I'm wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what I can expect when I arrive. Who I can contact to find an apartment and where I can find language classes. Thanks!

First, you have a great goal of going to HDK. I know for sure that several people have managed it - without having swedish as mothertongue language! If you are interested in getting in touch with someone with your background - give the question to HDK.
