Finding English teaching work with a 2 year degree?

Hello everyone! I'm a native English speaker from the USA. I read been reading online that some schools in Taiwan will hire foreigners that only have 2 year degrees rather than always require a 4 year degree?

I have about 8 years experience teaching English in the US, Mainland China and Japan.

Would this be enough to get decent work in Taiwan or will it be really difficult?

I'm aware that Taiwan is a small island nation with a lot of expats, but I thought I would ask anyway.

I would appreciate any help from the experts on here.

According to the law, a bachelor's degree is required.

Hello RedpillNeo101,

To get a government issued work permit for a buxiban (supplemental English school) the minimum requirement is a 2-year college diploma PLUS a TEFL Certificate ("qualification certificates for language teaching" according to the law).

If you have a Bachelor's Degree then a TEFL Certificate is not required.

This is what the government requires to issue a work permit. The relevant law can be found here at Article 42:

http://law.moj.gov.tw/eng/LawClass/LawAll.aspx?PCode=N0090031 [ENGLISH}

http://law.moj.gov.tw/LawClass/LawAll.aspx?PCode=N0090031 [CHINESE]

Schools themselves may require a Bachelor's Degree.

Hope this helps.

@Steve4nlanguage Thanks for the reply. Are there any buxiban that would accept a scanned TESOL certificate to help me obtain a work visa or does literally every buxiban require the original print out of the TESOL?

Sorry, but I don't know the policies. The particular buxiban where I work required my originals, which they copied and then stamped the copies as having seen the originals.
