Rights of partner for family moving to Thailand

Hi,
We are considering a move to Thailand.
My partner has a job offer and we share a young child.
We aren't married so I'm unsure about visas etc.
His job will sponsor him getting a visa and our child will get one being a dependent. How does it work if you're in a defacto relationship?
Are there any implications to living in Thailand if you don't share the same surname as your child? I just want to make sure I have equal rights for my child (medical, educational, travel, etc) before making a move and finding out different information when we are there.
Thanks
