Dual-Citizenship ??

New Topic Newest First

First, I already know Ukraine does not offer dual citizenship, I would like to know why not? Every news agency in the world has reported on Ukraine's Economy problems. I can't help with the Millions and Billions they beg for investment for the West. But, would it not make sense to offer dual-citizenship to people from United States and EU countries. In turn, Men from the United States and Europe would move to Ukraine with their wives in their retirement years to avoid the very high cost of living. That means they would be bringing their retirement $$$ with them. Even a Social Security check of say $1500 US Dollars is a lot of money in Ukraine. Add a mans 401K or his Military Disability, or his military retirement checks. One man could be bringing lets say $2500-$5000 US Dollars to Ukraine each month. He and his wife would buy a home, apartment, maybe a car, and a lot of shopping. Would this not help the Ukraine Economy a lot. With the exchange rate at 1 US Dollar = 25-27 Hryvnia. One American in retirement would have the spending power of 60-180 Ukraine citizens in retirement. Am I crazy or looking at this wrong. I just think if Ukraine loosened up on Citizenship, and transferring of money to Ukraine banks. This would help their Economy in some degree!! What's your opinion please.

I know ukrainians living in America with both ukraine and American passports. They just use their ukraine passport when they go back to ukraine.
Besides, if you are an American why would you want a ukrainian citizenship. A permanent resident permit allows you to do everything but vote, hold office or join the military and who would want to do that here anyway.?

Extreme, as a permanent resident, do I get to keep my American citizenship. Just in case I need to return home for medical treatment or something else.

Absolutely yes you keep your american citizenship. In 5 years you can apply for ukraine citizenship after you give up your american citizenship. But now the US is making it difficult to give up your citizenship because during this last administration, more people have renounced their citizenship then in the previous 50 years combined. Mainly because of Obama draconian new tax law on earnings abroad. Now if you owe taxes they will now grant your renouncification. And the fee to do this went from something like $300 to $3000. But I hear that for a small gift the ukrainian government isn't making one prove their renouncification of their host country citizenship. Also, if you do renounce your citizenship and it is granted you are still entitled to your VA and social security benefits since you earned these benefits as a citizen and they can't be taken away from you. At least this is how I read the law and what was explained to me at the embassy.

I don't trust the US Government when it comes to my Social Security and V A Benefits. It's amazing, I work 30-40 years here, born here, and I must worry about what I have earned here. Yet, They hand out Social Security and free college to Illegal's like candy. I just want what is rightfully mine. And leave when the time comes to do so......

That's the problem, there won't be any left for those of us who have paid in for all our lives. So far they say it's our money even if we give up our citizenship. But who know what will happen. With these executive orders happening like the US has become a dictatorship, who knows what will happen because of a knee jerk reaction from the perpetrator in charge.

I have my separate retirement because I do not plan on getting any SS. SS was initially setup because people DIDN'T have any retirement plans. it was meant to supplement what people had. Now people rely on it as their sole source of income. After seeing how well the government manages...anything...I am not relying on them to pay my bills when I retire. I would rather be in control of that.

Nate and extreme bring up good reasons why one should "get thier family OUT OF HERE". I'm sure Nate is looking out for his daughter like I want my daughter "out of here" for here own future. She is too young to have much intelgence on these matters yet.
Re: benefits and a better deal, we have all read Panama gives Americans better treatment than the U.S. with the "pensionado" policy. I don't want to move to Panama tho. We would go to Vancouver or Victoria. I'd get a big Canadian flag!

Yes, but you make too much sense of dual citizenship. Anyone with half a brain and an ounce of integrity refuses to be involved in that criminal enterprise aka government. So things are as they are.

Well that's how you close out a topic !! Anyone with 1/2 a brain !! hahaha.. Anyway, your spot on extreme..Why do you want dual citizenship anyway.. There are some tax advantages is the only reason...What that means if you make say 50k in Ukraine, you deal with the Ukrainian tax man instead of the u.s. " dracons " hahaha.. Is that right extreme ? lol....I can testify that I do have a tax code number here, and I have not heard from them, YET..For like 6 years I been playing around with money here...As of now we have 4 property's that we rent and they haven't came yet.. But it's that yet I am kind of leery about !! But even so, back to the topic, paying the tax man here is a lot cheaper than the states right !!

That's why my wife and 90% of the rest of the country only deal in cash when it comes to your bussiness. Cash is untraceable. Any money that you make here in ukraine the US will never know unless your stupid enough to tell them. That can't tax you for what you don't tell them. American embassy doesn't even know I am here. For anyone that does come here, don't fall for that cap on the state department website about signing up for alerts from the embassy while you are here. It's just a way for the government to keep track of you when it comes tax time. My money goes to my bank of america account and then I just western union myself cash every month. Oh, and most airlines will want you to fill out an information card before boarding the plane on america. They say that the US government needs this. I have never filled this out and I don't know anyone else that does either. I'm not going to make it easy for then to know I have left the country.

I do NOT know anything about taxes in Ukraine, but we all know RENT is expected to be on your 1040 here, someone is over 60 should NOT be paying taxes so high. I read over $44K/couple, and they want to tax a higher rate. By the way: "s.s. money is taxed at a lower rate than 401 distributions." I take exception to the securities companies sending reports from my acct.. I can't pay $3700 for the house to Illinois, and then pay for med. coverage on top of O'Bamacare. I read a story today that Clinton would want to tax the rich to raise a trillion $ over ten yrs.: they can't cut any deficit trying to tax people making $10/hr..

AM I CORRECT,
"kk mail is in ODESSA, and KK Bill is in Kherson.?" As was posted,"This is NOT the country it used to be to be proud of anymore!" I stated that to the old guys this morning as someone mentioned they had a flag outside his house. Better to raise to southern flag!

Well,"Someone posted they had grown kids, was going to sell the house in Houston, was in the Rangers, was a former longshoreman, He was in for some CARDIO checkup and was 73,WHATEVER.
I couldn't get "all of these stats on my own!" He was with the woman making
cherry peroshki. THAT must have been whomever is up the road from ODESSA, with the beat roads, and fruit trees. It is better than I have for sure, minus any cardio.I was just in for a checkup and the PSA came back 0.10. total chol. 177 bad chol 114.
