Moving to Abu Dhabi

Post New Topic

I will be moving to Abu Dhabi in the fall to teach. Almost all of what I have heard is positive. I am a single 22 year old female and am wondering what kind of social life I can expect. I am also wondering about what women in Abu Dhabi wear. Any help or advice about any aspect would be most welcome.

Hello Jolene,
I have lived and worked in Saudi Arabia, and the best advice I can give you is to
socialize only with nice people, you will find plenty, and
use your judjement to qualify them, asap
Also I am interested to know if you have any serious
recruiters,I am very intersted to return in the Middle East.

Jolene,
Firstly, welcome. There is plenty of social life in Abu Dhabi, and even more in Dubai! Lots of nightlife and clubs/restaurants to visit. Mind you, the drinks are on the high side, but there are ladies nights where you dont have to pay for your drinks at some nightclubs. There is jazz, salsa, dance or whatever you want to do in that area.
Dressing modestly helps reduce unwanted looks from the general male public, who may not be so used to our free attitude in attire.
Have a great flight!
Bruce

Hi. I wish you well inAbu Dhabi, it is beautiful. I went there last year and I am trying to find a job there now. I am a elementary teacher who teaches kindergarten and first grade. Should you know of a school tha is looking for a teacher, as you start in the fall, maybe you can help me, and we can become friends. I live in the U.S. right now but since my husband is in the military in Jordan I would be closer to him. Thanks if you can help.

LLydia: Have you tried checking out the DODDS overseas employment opportunities? (Dept. of Defense Schools).

If you want the link to their page, feel free to email me at . (Didn't I see you over on the Italy board too, by the way?)

Hi, I am an American with English teaching experience in Japan, but I am not a certified teacher. I do have a master's degree though. I don't know where to look for a teaching job in the UAE. But I'd like to go there. Can somebody point me in the right direction. Do you think I have a shot at finding a teaching job in the UAE or must I be certified, how about the international schools? Thanks you.
