Shipping from the UK

Hi all,

I'm enquiring about shipping companies right now and had a few quotes varying a lot.

Currently the most clear and concise quote has been from Doree Bonner. 3800 GBP for a 20ft container - whole package door to door.

Has anyone had any experience with this company? Reviews on TrustPilot seem good.

Thanks

I recommend you confirm who they use in UY for customs clearance and delivery. Uruvan was very good.

We used Urivan also. I highly recommend. They even put tables and beds together where we wanted them saving us the trouble.

Thanks. Yes they confirmed yesterday that they are using Uruvan. We had the choice to change but I've seen good reviews about them here.

Uruvan was very good at dealing with all the paperwork and explaining the different options re the custom bond required if you do not have permanent residency or citizenship.
We paid for door to door but there is also a charge for port duties which is normally paid this end. I believe we paid about $500 US for this through Uruvan.

A Briano Moving and Relocation in Montevideo got all our stuff here from California and it flew through customs with no hang ups. Port fees add up fast if they do not release your container.....

The company we've chosen offers insurance at 3%. Can we get a much better deal from a specialist insurance company or are all standard rates? Like travel insurance its always much cheaper getting a 3rd party insurance. Thanks

We finally made it!! Arrived here last Monday all safe and sound with our dog and 8 year old son. Our container is due to arrived on the 26th Dec. No issues with entering with our dog after checking the health certificates. The dog was checked by the animal import office at ther airport easily. I'm already working and secured a place at the Anglo school in Carrasco for our son. Next car.

Congrats on making a successful move. Moving so far with family and dog in tow is very stressful and not easily done.

Container finally arrived at the port, later than expected, on the 7th Jan. Took about 8 days from arrival to clear customs etc and arrive at our storage unit puntabox.

Had some disputed with the UK moving firm as they were trying to charge us the port fees as extra but in their contract said all standard port fees and customs fees included. They were disputing that the charges from Uruvan were extra port fees but Uruvan (with the help of my wife translating!!) finally told them straight that the fees being invoiced were standard (700 GBP). if customs do a full search on the container then yes that costs us extra. They just opened the container, checked one box quickly and resealed it before it left. Normal procedure.

Anyway all 180 boxes arrived. Was odd seeing the container arrive. From a drizzly cold day in the UK to Uruguay.

We had about 8 boxes that wouldn't fit in the storage though. It is packed to the brim! Not an inch to spare.

Doree Bonner UK company named the purrrfect movers. not so purrfect at all. Wouldn't recommend them but at least all of our stuff finally arrived. Biggest failure from them was that Uruvan weren't even aware that they had this move with Doree Bonner just 2 weeks before the container was arriving!!! We called just to check they had all the paperwork in order.
They had never heard of the company!! How can Doree Bonner charge us, send a container overseas and never inform the overseas moving company to pick it up??? No apology from them either. We were not impressed and increased our stress level tenfold again!
