concealed firearm class for expats

New Topic Newest First

The person that helped me obtain my cedula is putting on a concealed firearms class. The class will be in Maldonado. I think it will be in a week or 2. I will find out the price (i think it is about $600USD), but everything is included. When I say everything I mean EVERYTHING, The doctors note, the psychological screening, the proof of income, the training (all in English), the shooting range....

If you are interested let me know either in the forum, send me a PM, or email me at [email protected]

If you have any questions just ask :)

Thanks for this info. While I hope I will never need to carry a firearm, it's better to be prepared, trained and licensed.

@Vortice yes my thoughts exactly. And beyond that, I would like to know the personal protection laws in Uruguay. If you are interested let me know.

From what I am told, personal protection laws here are closed to criminal protection laws. Apparently there is a legal concept of 'desigualdad" which means that you had better not shoot an assailant armed with a knife, or stab someone who is attacking you with fists. I am also told that the only part of your home where you may legally shoot someone in self defense is the bedroom, only the bedroom.
As usual, prohibitionist gun laws guarantee that the criminals will be armed and that the Citizen is victimized. Now THAT is what I call desigualdad.

Oops! From what I am told, personal protection laws here are closeR to criminal protection laws.
I really would welcome any info from someone with a legal background here.

I would stay in America where it seems you can shoot anyone!

Was it a straight forward procedure or where there unexpected hiccups?

Any snafus in getting the license and how long does it take?

Some questions/concerns were raised in the thread. Any info?

The class has not taken place yet. There have been issues with getting a quorum to put the class together. As soon as I know more I will post it here.

The class took place. I was not able to post here because I was told the day before the class that it was happening. If anyone has questions about the experience, laws, rules, let me know.

Excellent! I hope it was informative and beneficial for you.

The idea of "desigauld" was mentioned, criminal vs victims rights. What can you say about that?

Do you get the liscense at the class or do you pick it up somewhere else? Costs? Wait time?

Anything else you want to share?

Thankyou for the insight.
