Hola, I'm confused about the prevalence of agro chemicals and pesticides in UR food production. I read there is less use from a chef and I read recently there is more use now...? Is organic produce available in local markets or from individual growers ? I presently order produce and other organic products including, meat delivered to me in Buenos Aires.

The supermarket will sometimes have various items marked as organic and priced accordingly. It is not a large selection but then produce selection is small compared to what I was used to in California
The fruterÃa never sells anything organic. There is a small Sunday market where people will sell organic or home made products that are quite good near Punta del Este

Thank you. I am asking specifically if there are less agro chemicals and pesticides used in Uruguay. I am interested in settling in the Colonia Del Sacramento area.

Sorry, it isnt good here. I was wrong and came to Montevideo. I saw all the shops - natural and so in the Internet. Not organic. I dont know what weans natural in Uruguay. . Most flours, beans and all stuff are not organic - full of Glysophat and similars. There was an artikel in the newspapers, that they have thausend of tons of honey, the can not sell it in Us or Europe, because it contains Glysophat. There are some Fincas, which send vegetable to your home - near Montevideo. Maybe in Colonia also. Prices are high. Cariba

We buy organic products from Campo claro brand. Organic flour, jams etc and shop at the abovenamed store, organica in las flores here in the east. I do not know if campo claro has nation wide distribution, but look for it and ask. We have a local organic bewery that developed their own uy yeast strains (trained micro biologists). Organic IS gaining, though be it slowly.

You are welcome: but, my response was not directed specifically to you and your question but to the "exchange" community. I, for example, gained some interesting insight from responses into the Punta options due to other responses. I live there half of the year and found the referrals very helpful
Thanks for your question and starting the dialogue. The Expat Forum can be exceptionally helpful to each of us. Good luck on your move.
