Hi Im giving serious thought to moving to Uruguay and was wondering if there is anyone that could give me some advice. Im 42, male, no kids, about 130K to work with. My main reasons to want to move to Uruguay is to get out of the USA and from what ive read Uruguay seems to be the most liberal and friendly. I smoke marijuana at nights for my sleep apnea and Uruguay seems ok with this. And Uruguay is OK with crypto currency which is a big plus. Is there anyone out there that might be able to point me in the right direction? Thanks

Legal marijuana sales are limited to citizens and permanent residents. If you are very lucky you may achieve permanent residency in as little as 18 months or so - but it took us more than 3 years. Housing is considerably cheaper here than in California but other costs are comparable. And, you need a demonstrable income (not just savings) to qualify for residency - last i checked it was $1,500 / month. Furthermore, they only accept certain kinds of income - social security is good, but one of my investments, which paid regular dividends, was not. Good luck!

because of the tourist visa length of stay restrictions I traveled after 6 months in Uruguay to Colombia, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador. After 6 months in Uruguay you are required to leave the country and allowed to return the next day. I am not sure if you can do this every year,

Uruguay was a pioneer in cannabis legalization, but they created a bureaucratic mess that pleases few (none?) From what I gather, quality is generally marginal though some are raising the bar to California quality levels.
We were shocked when our neighbors cleared their campo and planted about 8 hectares of Cannabis! This is a legal permitted biz., We hope it does not attract thieves as it is still valuable on the Black Market due to the remaining anti-Cannabis laws, both here and abroad. Richard Nixons' war on drugs is slow to wane, but it is waning..

Most comments were about the marijuana but that is not a reason to move here. My sister in NY gets it delivered to her door for less and with far less hassle then getting it here.

There are lots of reasons to move to Uruguay as there are lots of reasons not to.. you don’t really give us much to go on...

being legal to grow marijuana for personal use in Uruguay has spawned a lot of grow shops and very easy to buy off the economy, you will find plenty of high quality product, I lived there off and on for a few years but stay clear of it due to my line of work and drug testing
