Can anyone tell me if there has been a change in the amount of dollars that you can take with you flying out of Nicaragua to the USA and also returning? It's my understanding that under $10,000.00 is allowed ?
Thanks

You leave or enter the US with however much cash you like, but you have to declare amounts over $10,000 -- not that I have any experience with amounts above the limit.

There is no legal limit as far as I know to how much cash you can bring into or out of Nicaragua (or any other nation) that I am aware of.
However, if you are carrying $10,000 on an international flight into the US (and probably any other nation) you are required to declare that amount on a customs form. And then be prepared to explain why you have that much cash, etc.
Be aware that entering or exiting the US with over $10,000 and even with declaring it the money can legally be seized by the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) if the individual is suspected of using it related to illegal drugs. In such a case you may eventually get this money returned to you however it may take a long time and you might end up being advised to hire legal counsel, etc.
I have had work related reasons to have to carry more than $10,000 cash out of the US and once, into the US,. I declared it on the appropriate customs form each time and also carried a letter on my employer's letterhead explaining the reason for doing this. I never had a problem although the amounts I carried were not significantly larger than $10K.
These days wire transfers can move money across borders much more safely however carrying cash above $10K is legal. I advise anyone doing so to absolutely declare their cash on the customs form and that includes smaller amounts of cash also.

Thank you for your reply. When I return to the USA I will in no way be carrying anywhere close to $10,000.00. Maybe incorrect thinking but with all the talk about the shortage of dollars; I was concerned that maybe there was a new limit imposed that I might not be aware? My concern was that any amount over could be confiscated ? I know ; a little paranoid?
