Is Nicaragua a good place to start a business?

Depends on the business. What do you have in mind?

I'm not really settled on any particular business just yet. I'm currently in the commercial truck driving industry driving 18 wheelers. I am pretty handy and have worked in underground electrical and plumbing.

I want to see i could drive part time in the state whole trying to establish a place for myself out there. My family is Puerto Rico. I'm first generation in the United States. Just giving you some context

If you owned your own truck, this is a possibility. To work for someone else is next to impossible. Here, you can only do your own thing. There are a lot of rules and regulations against a foreigner working for Nica companies. Like the states, you are taking away a job from a local.
I keep stressing to people that want to come to Central America, just because it has "America" in the name doesn't mean it's an arm of the US. Remember, you are stepping back in time 20 years or more. Everything is geared around money.
You need to come here and stay for no less than 3 weeks, then you'll have a good idea of what you're getting into.

I've considered various businesses in Nicaragua and I have decided to say no.

To make any business go you need hard work, dedication, and capital. If you have plenty of the first two in Nicaragua - you can make it on a small scale, but the actual amount of income is going to be very low. This is just very a poor country. You are competing in an economy where services are extremely cheap. Especially trucking and transportation. You're probably aware that Nicaragua has a completely abysmal road and transport system.

If you work hard, and have any sort of success you're going to run smack into corruption, political favoritism, inefficient bureaucracy, lack of basic security and absent rule of law. Not a good business environment.

The United States is a much better place to start a business. Especially right now in in a time of global pandemic, inflation, worsening standard of living all around the world, and war.

In the impoverished north you would be competing with tradespeople most of whom would be glad to make $25 a day.
Some doing AC or modern electrical are doing better. Having your own work truck is a must, but supporting it prices your services out of reach of most customers.

Definately have a plan B.
A BIL has a trucking business. I don't know the numbers but he survives, although he was capitalized by working in the US.

It remains to be seen how the new forever war will affect petroleum prices. Between covid, debt, sanctions, and shortages it is a dicey time to start a business and working here for somebody else rarely makes any sense.
