How to connect with expat communities in Matagulpa?

Matagalpa, not Matagulpa.
I know that there are expats there, because I met one by accident. Not very many, maybe not enough to call it a "community". I have no idea how to connect with them.

Wander around as if lost and ask around at the hospedajes, etc. Expats in the campo are largely a fiction of internet chisme and many have no great desire to meet others.
If an expate welcomes you, ask him what he is selling just to clear the air.

I believe there is a Facebook group for expats of Matagalpa. Or, it may be one for the expats in the north in general - Jinotega, Esteli, and Matagalpa. If nothing else, there certainly is a group for all expats in Nicaragua.

I met one in Sinsa and another in Casa de Lubricantes, i think Maybe hang out in hardware stores. Or just do your normal routine and you’ll probably run into folks over time. I ran into a couple US women walking down the street.
One of the guys I met spends most of his time in el campo and so do I. The other lives/lived on the road to San Ramon. I haven’t seen any of them again.
I’m told there is a 20-something woman running some kind of school just off the road to San Ramon. Up the road that has “San Ramon” painted on its retaining wall. If the water hasn’t killed me i might see what’s up there.
I just come down to Nicaragua to visit for a couple months at a time.

There is also a real pleasant Nicaraguan guy who owns a shop on the road from the park to the north bus station. He grew up in the US, I believe but lives here now. He speaks excellent English and doesn’t mind talking. He’s on the left as you go to the station.

Hi JustSomeGuy. Thanks for the information. Really useful. Sometimes just having a direction of where to go is helpful & hopefully will fall into place from there. I have children so San Ramon sounds interesting for the lady with school.
When you say 'el campo' is that a generic term for the countryside or an actual place? Ultimately I am looking for land in rural areas but as I'm completely new here need contacts first. If you think of anything else I'm all ears.

I was using “el campo” to mean out in the country.
There’s been a lot of rain so the water quality dropped on the farm I’m staying on. As a result I’ve been sick but I’m getting better, When I feel stronger I’ll see if I can find that school, if it exists.
If there are any private schools in Matagalpa they might have some American students. Maybe you could connect with the parents. Spanish teachers might have some new residents as students.

I was in San Ramon this morning and met a Canadian who has been in Nicaragua since 2015, has a wife, a couple kids and a coffee farm. He was going from one hardware store to another looking for things to improve his farm.
I was joking when I suggested hanging out in hardware stores but it might work.
