All,

My name is Branko and I am a first generation American. However, I relatively good speak Croatian. I would like to move to Croatia next Summer (2021) just concerned about having sufficient funds to live comfortably. I have a 4K dollar a month pension BUT I'm married with 4 kids. Also, my dad has a beach house close to Zadar so I would not have any living expenses. I would need a couple of cars, health insurance for the family, auto insurance, and would be paying 600 a month for my kids to start out with an over the internet education program (at least for the first couple of years until they learn the language). Is $3400 a month sufficient to live well considering my requirements?

Yea hard when kids grow up but such is life,

Not knowing your circumstances except what you have said I would still say move earlier- the sooner the kids in Croatian schools the better for them., academically and socially,

Your right!

Its hard to leave the kingdom I created here in the states. But I would be giving up one good situation for a better situation.

I will be moving to Croatia next Summer (2021). I have allot of family there who would assist me with the paperwork. I am already a Croatian citizen (I lived there from 1992 to 1994) so I shouldn't have troublesome visa issues.

The main reason for the move is to have a better quality of life. I had made good money in the states and have allot stuff, but we visited Croatia the last two Summers and we enjoy life more. The kids are happier and don't fight us to spend 24/7 on ipads or iphones or TV. We're outside loving the beaches and or going to town for walks or visiting family who cook out ever weekend.

The only hesitation I'm having is our oldest daughter is in college here in the US and has a US fiance. They want to build a life here in the states. Its hard to fathom being so far from my baby!

well a few comments

7 and 12 year old my recommendation put both in school straight away, the 14 year old a bit of an issue -probably to be in school but still take the courses online(i know liberty, i respect them a lot). croatia is an extremely safe environment for children.however university plans may dictate on online english classes for the young ones.

i admit i am a bit unsure where one would find 'fantastic' food in america. for example the open market in Rijeka I have frequented, and probably the same in Zadar a bit more expensive than a large supermarket but the fruit and soem vegtable of a taste and quality generally hard to find in most parts of america . sure croatia not to the standards of italy, but friends in istria just arrange with local farmer to buy their cheese monthly, and same with eggs, bread one buys fresh and of a quality and range again one wouldnt find much in america. adriatic least polluted sea in the mediteranean so seafood can be superb. cured meats as well. only thing a bit challenging i found is a good steak. if you carefully look around some good italian restaurants. istrian olive oil on a par with the best in Italy, better truffles, and truffle infused istrian olive oil the best i have had, and i have lived in italy it isnt italy, and one thing you might miss is variety of Asian restaurants..

and if going back to town your father is from you an instant network.

it is a pain in july and august with all the tourists.bureaucracy is frustrating. work hard to find unless you work for american company on internet. if your wife american depending on her personality it might take some time for her to adjust, and she will miss some of the conveniences of living in the states.also while the education i find better than the usa, in some respects to social attitudes can be a bit more liberal than the states.

i know if i had three kids that age. a fixed income about 2,000, a place to live for free and chance to look out after my father, plus a more wholesome environment for the children, i wouldn't be waiting. one second.
