We are hearing that setting up bank accounts is a difficult and time consuming task. Any insights would be helpful.

Banking in Bize is completely different than in the U.S. In the U.S., you pick a bank from a plethora of choices. Who ever YOU pick is who you bank with. In Belize, you apply to banks (of which there are not a tremendous amount of choices) and they choose to except you. The application requires some unique items that could be difficult to obtain. So, putting money in the banks are easy. Once you aquire a large amount, it is a lot more difficult to withdraw a large amount. Exercise caution, do research, read the fine print, ask questions and get it in writing!!!

Choosing a bank in Belize really isn’t any different than choosing one where you are.
What services do they offer?
What are the fees?
Do you need international banking services?
Is there a branch or ATM near your home?

The different banks are:
Belize Bank
Heritage Bank
Atlantic Bank
Caye International Bank
St. John’s Credit Union
And more. Do a google search for banks in Belize and you are given a list of the banks and from there you can search for each bank individually.

Note that these banks can’t be found physically in all locations. Look them up on their websites, reach out to each one and ask your questions.

We would also appreciate some advice regarding choosing a bank in Belize, especially since a local bank account is a requirement for the QRP.

Thank you!
