Can an American get a Brazilian citizenship and still remain a US citizen?

YES you can become a citizen of Brasil - or most any other country and keep your US citizenship.
You can also get an RNE - permanent residence card and stay forever too. Usually based on marrying a Brasilian or starting a business.
Any particular reason you choose Brasil ? Maybe Portugal, Costa Rica, Panama, Canada would be better options. At least they have a real economy and real jobs.
Unlike Brasil who has a dictatorship, an economy is the trash - for the forseeable future, NO jobs. IT IS cheap but there is a reason for that.
Yes I am a real person, I think.

I am In Imperatriz now this is small town next to a river. There are not many foreign here and that is good. The people here are friendly and I haven’t seen much crime. It’s not wealthy more motorcycles than cars. When people see me they know I am not Brazilian but not sure where I am from haha. I been coming here for over Two years. Plan of living here not sure how the school are but met student getting law degrees. The weather is hot all the time or rain and it’s at least 8 hour from any beach. San Luis is beach city nice also would check that city out also major airport many flights. Sorry to here thing getting so bad in the South.

Hello!

I have two sons, 43 and 35, living in hellish Porto Alegre. Violence there is very bad these days. The state of Rio Grande do Sul is bankrupt. People are fleeing to other cities in Brazil, especially Florianópolis/SC. Today, no less than 80% of the people living in Florianópolis has come from Rio Grande do Sul, mainly Porto Alegre. We left Porto Alegre in 2004 after falling victim to 4 robberies. Three years ago, my 43-year-old son was kidnapped with his car by three armed men and taken to a favela. He lived hours of terror until the criminals made a mistake and he managed to run away falling in a putrid lake full of rubbish and animal corpses in the middle of the favela where he hid in the dark for hours until he assumed the men had left. He got help from a resident of the favela who called the police that came to his rescue. Unfortunately, Porto Alegre has become a no-go place.

Fortunately, on the other hand, Santa Catarina is a state that has navigated the current crisis pretty smoothly and is emerging almost unscathed from it.

Florianopolis, Santa Catarina's capital island-city and Joinville, the largest city in the state are very good places to live in and bring up children. They both have excellent schools (including bilingual/international ones) and public and private universities.

There are other towns such as Blumenau, Itajaí and Balneário Camboriú which are good to live in too.

While Joinville and Blumenau are inland, Florianópolis, Balneário Camboriú and Itajaí are on the coast where you can find beautiful beaches and a very laid-back sort of life.

Good research and planning include a visit to those places for an informed decision.

Hope my comment helps you make the right choice.

Good Luck!

ANSWER IS YES. And vice versa.
The south of Brasil is the best place to live in my opinion. I lived just north of Florianopolis in Balneario Camboiu for 3 years 2002-2005.
Floripa - as it is known, is a young person's place, couple of big colleges, 42 beautiful beaches, a yacht club, airport, etc.
Can be very yuppified too with all the rich kids and their expensive sports cars. Rents are pretty cheap and it's safe there.
Jobs - not sure but prob teaching jobs with a degree. Some hotels but not a lot.
Camboriu is about an hour north, too far for a commute. Other little coastal cities along the way, but not much going on in them.
Blumenau is west of Camboriu. BIG German settlement with small town feel.
Novo Trento- small town full of Italians.
All these places have weather equal to Tampa- cool wet winters, HOT summers.
IF you go all the way south to Porto Alegre, it's a big city with colleges and a lot going on.
Snows here often in the winter, especially in the mountains.
BIG wine region - Gramado, Garibaldi, Canela, Nova Petropolis. VERY NICE AREA full of Italians and Germans.
