Questions on moving to Guate

I am planning on bringing extension cords. Are the outlets in the wall 2-pronged or 3-pronged outlets?

I currently have the AT&T U.S. cell phone provider. Would you all recommend keeping my U.S. sim card and purchasing U.S. international data, text, and calling plan? Or would you suggest buying a Guatemalan sim card for my U.S. phone? If I opt for the Guatemalan sim card, how do I go about loading data and minutes for calling and texting? What are the fees?

Should I purchase a money belt?

When arriving or departing from GUA airport, what is the process like? Do you know if, when departing from GUA airport, do airlines measure your bag size? Are they strict about the size (length, width, and height) of checked baggage?

Thank you!!

You will find both two and three prong outlets. You can purchase a two to three prong converter for about 10Q or $1.25.

My wife and I have iphones so purchasing a Guatemalan sim card was not an option. My wife brought an older android and we went to Claro to convert the phone. Note that we signed up for a plan that gives us unlimited voice and data from Canada to Panama for just under $40 per month. Nobody here uses texting as everyone uses WhatsApp.

I did not use a money belt. If you convert money in Guatemala you will get a lousy exchange rate. I use a cash machine and the bank will give you the current exchange rate which is around 7.5Q per dollar.

The airport is pretty much like any international airport. One difference is there is a mariachi band that plays while you wait to go through passport control. :)

Our bags met the size restrictions for Delta. 62 inches for the total of height+width+depth. As long as you are close I don't think they care.

You didn't ask but there are a lot of taxis available to take you wherever you want to go. We live in Antigua and it was very simple to get here.
