Hello all!

I am currently during initial negotiations for an academic job (assistant professor/associate professor) in Pune at the private university. If possible, could please tell me what is the comfortable salary of living in India (not lavish, but to make a living and some savings) and salary in academia. So far I have found that around 70K net INR monthly salary is good. Is it for a single person?

I will be very grateful for the information.

Mike

These are the expenses you have per month
Tax: INR 15,000 Per month
PF: INR 5000 per month
Accommodation: INR 18,000 Per month
food made at home: INR 10,000 per Month
outing INR 10000 a month going our 3 to 4 times for drinks and Dinner including gifts for birthday parties etc
Misc Exp: INR 5000 a month
Transportation: INR 6000 a month
Now depends on how you live and how adaptable you are to food, goods from other countries cost a lot more,
Let me know if you have any questions

thank you for the detailed answer. That does seem a decent salary for the position. Is this the average or maximum salary range?

Hi ! I have been in India all my life ( last 55 years) and travelled and worked almost all over.
70,000 inr is a decent salary in a city like Pune. Please however check what is nett after deductibles like Income Tax, Statuary contributions etc. We call it ' in hand ' salary.
You should be able to get a 1 bedroom apartment in a decent locality for around 15-20000. Pune traffic is getting bad by the day, so advice is to stay as close to your place of work as possible.
Food , utilities and domestic help etc another 15000- 18000 . Rest is conveyance, entertainment etc. Depends also on the budgets and living standards you are used to. But above is realistic as of date.If 70000 is in hand , you are ok.
