US Physician move to Jakarta

Hi folks:

This is a useful website for those of us taking the plunge of moving to another country. I am preparing for my move to Jakarta, it is 6 months away still, but thought its a good idea to gather some info.

I'll be working in South Cipete (Cipete Selatan). I am starting to look for rentals. I am single and will be satisfied with a 1 or 2 bed room apartment, I am used to walkable and safe neighborhoods. I prefer to be in walking distance to restaurants, stores etc.

Can anyone comment on this neighborhood? Cipete Selatan, such as demographics? people I am likely to meet, neighbors etc, and any other recommendations regarding close by neighborhoods that meet the above criteria.

Thank you for your time.
Taza

If you are working in Pondak Indab - LIVE IN THAT AREA - which is nice - because if you live outside of it and need to commute in - a lot of traffic ! and 2 lane in and out - so - when it comes to working in JKT - live as close you can to work - unless you want to add one hour commute each way - most of the time sitting in traffic. Pondok - nice area, plenty of places to go - and nice places to live good luck and.. make sure you always carry a copy of your passport on you

The best place to live is in Pondok Indab

Hi Taza I am an American that has lived in JKT for years..

1) LIVE CLOSE to where you work - 10 min taxi drive - traffic builds-up from 7AM and after 5Pm it exponentially gets worse to 7PM -

2) Kemang is nice / expat area BUT - getting in and out is brutal - small streets and the traffic crawls.. But, if you place of employment is close - then not too much a problem.

I lived in the Thamrin area near Plaza Indonesia and found it to be a good Central location but if I worked near Kemang - I would chose to live much closer because of the traffic issues.

if you have any other questions - send me pvt message
