Hong Kong Apartments

My wife, two children (one new born) and I are hoping to move to Hong Kong this August. We are looking for comfortable short term accommodation whilst we look around and establish our bearings. I have a job on the west side of Hong Kong Island but my wife (who likes to lie around on the beach) wants to live in the South. Is it possible to commute daily (public transport) from the South without stress? The apartments on the web seem nice but expensive, will we find cheap (HK20per month) accommodation?
