Shipping to and bringing items to Vietnam
1 year ago
Apologies first if this is not the right place to ask this question. I am not an expat but thought that this forum would be of help to advise as I've run out of ideas. My mom is US citizen but vietnamese and returned to Vietnam after my father (American soldier) died as she is very old and wants to be in her homeland to help grieve. She has asked me to send her her portable DVD player that she and my dad had here in the US along with her old DVD movies including family movies. I've been racking my head as all the web searches says that Vietnam will not allow shipment of these and also if I go to visit her, they may not let me bring the portable dvd player. I want her to have the portable dvd player that my dad got for her because 1) it's easy for her to use, 2) does not require anyone to setup wifi and 3) she can bring it with her anywhere and also it's part of the life she had with my dad.
I tried also to see if i can buy a portable dvd player from an online VN store but it requires a Vietnamese credit card and address and my mom may be required to do import paper work etc...which is is not able to do (no car and is very old). Anyways, my question is, what is the likelihood that if I ship via freight (via a VN shipper here in the states) that it will be stopped. I just don't want my mom to be bothered by authorities asking for import paper work or telling her she needs to pay fees or worse yet arresting or fining her. She's an old woman who does not have many years :( I've run out of ideas. I'm not sure how strict VN is. This is just for personal use and the movies are just old vietnamese movies that they don't make or sell anymore. Most new VN dvd movies are too modern for my mom. She is very old fashioned. Thanks in advance for any advise. This has been a major head scratcher for me. Such as simple thing but so complicated.
