Advantages/Disadvantages for an American to simply move, full-time, to France?

1. Are there basic, deciding consequences, such as taxes, medical, etc.?
2. Anyone from America or the U.K. living in Lyon, FR? I've had my eye on it for a while and would love to hear from expats there about their experience and the fundamental pros and cons?
3. Is there an expat colony where you are, and how cohesive is it?

Are you independently wealthy in retirement, or will you need to work remotely? Forget about working physically in France.

US citizens only get three months out of every 180 days in the Schengen zone. Plan to try for residency or go elsewhere when your 90 days runs out.

How's your French? It's a big topic of study, and life will be a challenge for a year or so. But, it can also be exciting.

I love Lyon and the Savoie. I spent a summer in Chambery, to the north of Lyon.. Great culture, gastronomy and cycling, skiing, etc. Like everywhere, the more money you bri g, the more fun you can have.
