Normally i dont just dive right in to forums but i saw an old thread here and i just had to join immediately. I hope members are still active.

My significant other and i are planning to leave soon with minimal funds. We're in the US now, and that's basically our motivation. New Zealand isn't a definate destination, so any recommendations for some other country to relocate to would be nice. We know only the english language, with experience in retail and kitchens. We're interested in a place with youth hostels, minor political refugee programs, a great entry level job market, english speaking friendly societies, or just open arms to the homeless. We've got cash and passports, and bookbags, that's about it though. Please, any positive advice is welcome and anticipated, thank you.

Just saw your query and as a NZ citizen residing Northern New Zealand who has enjoyed living in the USA and abroad in the past I am glad to respond. The world is a beautiful place and so many destinations to choose from! NZ is a great place to come to start your journey...who knows you may end up here for good! NZ is sometimes referred to as "little europe" - mainly from a scenic point of view as it is a young country and therefore does not have a lengthy history or architecture of europe. However - there are many people of diverse ethnic groups and culture now making their home in our fair land. Like the rest of the world we are feeling the financial crunch, but we have so much to be thankful for - and we are! A great place to bring up children, this is the land of "the great outdoors" - beaches and sporting activities feature greatly in the lives of most "Kiwis" -nicknamed after our protected native bird which is flightless, not like many NZ'ers who are among the most travelled peoples of the world. In your circumstance you could come to NZ as HelpX'ers or Woofers, exchanging help for board and lodging, until you decide where to "hunker down" for a while. We are among many Kiwis who host overseas travellers in a mutual help situation. It is a really great system and we have lots of fun. Feel free to respond or e mail for more info if you are interested further in NZ. Best wishes in your exciting venture!
