Do any jobs exist for only English speakers in Romania?

New Topic Oldest First

I probably can answer this question myself but I just thought it would be worth just asking on this forum. My situation is that my partner is Romanian and although she wishes to come to the UK we are faced with issues of her young child not being allowed by ex to leave Romania at this time. So to explore all avenues I just wondered if there is any jobs that only require English language, although I have been to Romania many times I have not learnt the language, as there was never the intention to move there but.....I am a young 60 year old (age does not help either) who is a peoples person, working face to face situations all my life with people from all walks of life, I am willing to consider any opportunities that may exist as a possible solution to my situation, confident by nature, a hard and keen worker willing to try anything, anywhere in Romania but ideally in Arges if possible for that is where my partner lives. Even working as a couple would be something considered!. I know this is definitely a long shot, a very long short but if you don't ask you will never know is what I believe in. If anyone has any opportunities or advice I would appreciate it, as I said this is just another option I need to look at which may lead to an open door or close one completely.
Thanks in anticipation
Ian
PS Yes I know that some people

I myself am seeking work in Iasi Romania - I speak English, Polish and Russian and am struggling - I have a wealth of experience but this seems to account for nothing. Anyone have any Pointers/Advice, it would be very welcome.

So, every time i search for "english speaking jobs in romania" this thread come up despite it being years old. However there are newer replies.

My question is this, did anybody make the move to romania and find the english speaking job? How was it settling in romania?

From what i hear, if you are not too fussy about the pay, you can find work in the call centres, but it's not to everybodies taste.

Seems the many of us in here are walking the same tightrope when it comes to seeking work in Romania for just English Speakers - I perhaps go a little further and speak English, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian and Czech.

I have 30 plus experience in various fields covering:

My acquired skills over the years are:
* Strong team player with excellent communication skills
* Commercial awareness and finance
* Relationship management and interpersonal relations
* Decision making, planning and organising
* Networking
* Good judgement and analytical ability
* Ability to prioritise and work well under pressure
* Ability to multi-task
* Strong attention to detail
* Problem-solving and structured, analytical and disciplined approach
* Flexibility and enthusiasm
* The ability to build and manage relationships
* Customer Service
* Retail and Wholesale Experience

I am a self employed trainer, team builder, trouble shooter (problem solver) and am seeking work in Iasi - anyone have any pointers for me? The job websites seem to be a non starter as done that and get little response.

Finding a job at a call center is quite easy in Romania, just keep in mind that if you work for US, you will probably work nights only, due to the time zone.

Well, I believe you make one error in thinking there are a large number of active members of this group living in Romania. I would only use what is gleaned here as one small sliver of information that must be fleshed out from other sources.
That said, I don't believe you can legally work without documentation, though I know that many do.
If you come with expertise that might include degrees and/or certification there are many multinationals around.
I have often posted the contact for a headhunter I know in Bucuresti.
Me? I have a modest pension that will serve me quite nicely.

omg...right...I was reading your question and was surprised at the lack of responses...however, sometimes people are not the most encouraging anyways :p I am in a similar situation but I am Canadian who has a boyfriend/fiance here in Romania...unfortunately the visa thing did not work out right now for him to go to me...I have to come back. I feel like and this is only my opinion but explore other options such as online stuff...like starting an online business...see what opportunities lie within teaching English online as well. I will be exploring these options myself as I am back and do not speak the Romanian language. I believe that there is opportunity but we may need to seek it out or start something ourselves. Networking...obviously is huge. It does not matter age...I just believe in a willingness to do something and determination. Connecting with other expats may help as well :). It can be a tough journey to start fresh like this but it can be done. Just do not get stuck in a box...think outside it :)
You, like me are with someone you are willing to make these changes for and we didnt realize what it all entailed? haha...but it is worth it. Romania may not be as advanced as some of the western european countries but it is still a country with certain needs and wants and that is moving forward with progression. And like I said before...search out what others may want and need from outside of Romania and start something from that :) Good luck to you and I know you will do something great!

Please don't be so negative :)

To be able to live here you DO have the option to apply for
an Romanian long term visa. (D type visa)
The way to do this can be found online: https://washington.mae.ro/en/node/427

Also are they legal ways to start working here.

You DO need to save money, because you are not European you need to have the following:

Proof of you being able to financially take care of yourself for the time that you are planning to stay (and apply for a CNP)
You need a travel insurance that covers you in Romania

For the rest please inform yourself about obtaining a CNP to be able to work.

Also regarding money...
Don't let numbers here in this forum scare you, if you are who they need and your education is what they need.
Also romanian companies pay you well enough to have a good life in this great country.

Regards J

zero chances for you to find a job there ... and anyway doesn't worthed .
Enjoy the scenery , the weather ...everything .Live like you are in holiday for those 3 months ...
Believe me doesn't worthed for you to work 3 month's there ... you don't speak the Romanian language and English speaking jobs are only few and the wages are to low Ro. vs Can .
( approx 500 Can $/ month )
For holiday point of view , you have a lot of things to see and to do in Romania ...

johnkorst
  6/19/2017 18:31 EST

P.S. Further research forces me to correct the minimum wage I quoted. /
A web site shows: "The minimum salary in Romania is 1,250 RON (which is around $290US). However, the newly elected government promised to raise the minimum salary to 1,450 RON starting February 1st, 2017. So this would mean that the minimum would be in 2017 at around $335US."

johnkorst
  6/19/2017 16:59 EST

It's my understanding you can stay visa-free for 90 days and then you must leave for 90 days before returning. /
You can't work legally so my advice is to save up as much money as possible before going.
You may be able to pick up some money illegally under-the-table as a private English tutor or your fiancé may know someone who will hire you, but wages in RO are very small. $88CAN a month. /
I would say that if you are sensitive to him spending money on you then you must be mindful that many Romanians are generous hosts and feel they must take care of guests and also that his manly ego may feel he needs to provide for you and aggressive independence on his turf may be insulting. /
Good luck. Have fun.

You're gonna need a long-term residency visa and work permit. I can't help much, but when I land I'm going to start in on that residency permit immediately as 90 days passes by quickly. I'm lucky that I won't be asking for a work permit. But I won't have the advantage of a Romanian spouse. Good luck in Piatra Neamt. I'll be in Focsani.

hellraiser66 , hey guy I am fixing to move to Romania around June of this year . My wife is Romanian and I have been trying to learn the language myself. I am not fluent in it but can muddle through to get my point across. The few times I have been there I had no problems getting around as most people speak Romanian. However I have learned that most do appreciate when you do at least try to speak their language. and understandably so. I will do some checking around and see what I can come up with for you though. best of luck to you

Would you have been protected if you kept your main bank account in your own name and had a secondary marital account that you both lived off of.

Most of you are asking whether one could find a job without being able to speak Romanian.
I found a job in Bucharest, pretty well paid, in an IT company (on a non-IT position). I would recommend IT companies, they are doing quite well, and there are many multinational companies.

Even though speaking English (native) is a huge advantage, not speaking Romanian is a handicap. It is important to make an effort and at least try to learn a few words, or even go beyond the classical "Buna ziua", Nobody is expecting you to be fluent in 3 days, but my boss told me he hired me not only because I could speak a bit of Romanian, but also because it showed I was flexible, willing to learn and to adapt to my new situation.

Knowing how to speak Romanian will help you most probably in many other situations.
There are many free resources out there, the one that I like the most is: www.learnro.com/common-romanian-words

I would call that good advice, friend.
Personally, I would assess the woman's former lifestyle and put us on a budget that is a couple steps up with expenses paid from a monthly allowance. Some people think foreigners are spendthrifts and will encourage this, thinking there will be plenty of scraps left for them to scoop up.
One must be careful of a woman who wants to establish a position in society.

I'm an American lawyer who will be moving to Romania this coming July, where I'm relocating with my wife (of long-standing), who will be teaching at the American school. I'm currently performing writing projects for other American lawyers, but I want to find something local if at all possible, as this is the best way appreciate the local culture. (We've now done stints in India and China.) I'm currently learning Romanian, and I intend to arrive with at least basic conversational skills. While a law-related job would perhaps prove ideal, I'm open to anything worthwhile. I consider myself a writer and editor as well as a lawyer. I have teaching and coaching skills also. I will look into English-medium schools that could use substitutes or who wouldn't get hung-up on certifications for teaching. By the way, I, too, am an older individual (in my early 60s), but I'm still a sharp tack. Any suggestions or comments are welcome--or hot leads, of course! I'm also happy to provide more information about me.

Hey there, new to this site and I know your thread is a little old but no harm letting you know how things worked for me.

I too am Irish with a Romanian girlfriend, I moved here 2.5 years ago and still don't speak the language.. There is plenty of international companies here looking for English speaking staff and most of them use English for there office communication. Its normally call center work, salaries don't seem great at first about 2000lei a month unless you have some kind of a qualification such as IT which is in high demand, but living here is cheap so don't worry to much...

Once you get here and settle in start getting involved in as many expats and English speaking groups as you can and you won't be long in making connections.

If you are still interested or have questions I am happy to speak further and prob give you a lot more tips from my experience, and that goes for anyone else looking for help..

Also I am allways interested in making new connections and finding opportunities so if there is any Irish or British around Cluj would be delighted to meet and exchange experiences and help each other in anyway we can

Being a Romanian living in the US, I have some sort of biased information, however, the replies to your post didn't seem to clarify anything of what you asked.
First, 7000RON=1100GBP, which is not bad for Bucharest, although you might have to downgrade your lifestyle expectations if 1100GBP doesn't look that good. You can clearly live decently on that in Bucharest. In Arges, you may not make as much as in Bucharest, but it's all about what you can do. The way you presented yourself, I'd suggest real estate business, even as a beginner. Obviously, there are plenty other venues, but this one cannot go too wrong if you really are a face-to-face person. Good luck, baby, you'll need some.

I only speak English and very few words in Romanian. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of Canadian company did you find a job with? Also, that is a very good salary for Romania. I think I can rent my place here since it is in a resort area to help a little bit with rent over there. Please let me know if anyone has any knowledge of work there. I'm willing to do anything, but have been working mainly in sales and front of the house restaurant work most of my life. I'm a 45 year old with a pretty good resume. Thanks.

My Husband almost did the same thing to me but I took him off all of my accounts as soon as I found out. Almost broke our marriage up

I've been living and working in Bucharest since 2009 and I found a job with a Canadian company month and a half after moving to Romania. I make between 7 and 8 thousand lei/leu per month. I can speak Romanian now but only speak English at my job/employment. FYI, I'm married to a Romanian man and make 3 to 4 times more then he does

Quick piece of advice. DO NOT trust Romanian Women. Mine stripped me of all assets in 4 Years before it ended.

Hi, someone said 7000 lei per month. I used an online money conversion and it is not making any sense. Did the money change from the time of post 2014 to now?

Hello and good day
I live here in Romania and only speak English. I've been working
for 5 years now and make ok money (7000 lei per month).
It only took me a month to find a job and I did it without any help. Believe me, if I did it you can also do it:)

So a month has passed and there were no responses, not even to say no chance and maybe if you learnt the language you may have stood a slim chance. Anyway it was worth a try, 'God loves a trier as they say', 'nothing ventured nothing gained'.
