Hi...please help
I am a U.S. citizen planning to marry my Romanian fiancé in Romania. Handling the logistics of selling my home in the u.s. is the least of my issues. I have been on several websites and have researched the documents that is required of the Romanian embassy. I don't know if I should hire an attorney or do this myself. Another big question....once I have my birth cert with the apostille, translation, etc etc...can I then go to Romania on a 90 day visa to start the process of getting married. It's like which came first.... the chicken or the egg ! So confused.

First of all yes everything must be done there in Romania. Secondly you don't need any employment contract if you get a business Visa. Simply register a business. Still need health insurance and an apartment but it's really easy to do this. I had a consultation company help do all the leg work. Was very easy. As an American you don't need to show any proof of funds for living support or any bank account with money. They don't care.

Hello, I am also an American living in Romania. You can go at any time with the 90 days. I would suggest getting help with all the documents as it can be very confusing. I had a consultation company help me get my business Visa and many other documents sorted out. They did almost everything for me. Completely took all the headache and hassle out. Message me and I can get you there information.

Oh I'm even more confused. I'm aware of everything you said. I guess where I'm confused is...do I go to Romania without a visa , with my documents showing the aposille cert, etc then do all the steps you said in Romania? Dont I need proof that I can support myself? What if my fiance has an apartment...do I need to be on leave? Thanks for your help.

You don't need a lawyer. You need: 1. An employment contract (or like me, a volunteer contract with an approved non-profit) 2. Apartment lease. 3. Health insurance. 4. Note from a local doctor. 5. Pay the fees of about $200 6. Passport

Hi Ricky. Thanks for your answer. I am aware that a visa is not necessary but anything after 90 days I would require one. Do you know what the general purpose of getting a lawyer is? Is it getting my proper documents? From what I understand there are steps I need to do myself once i am there. Do you know how much a lawyer costs?

You know that as a US Citizen, you can enter the country of Romania without a Visa. Once there, report to a local immigration office or Police department, and declare you are planning to stay. Best to do this in the first 24 hours upon arrival. Always get a lawyer, but make sure you get one that is reputable. Good Luck.
