life without personnummer

My wife and I (both UK citizens) would like to buy a house in Sweden and live there for the next 5+ years. We are not working and not of retirement age so would be classed as "persons of sufficient means". We would need private medical insurance - no problem - but getting insurance that meets the Swedish authority's requirements is impossible. Therefore, No personnummer! Is it possible to live anything like a normal life in Sweden without a personnummer?

Thanks for the reply. I think what you're saying makes perfect sense, I've contacted various Swedish government departments and they all agree there seems to be a problem but no-one has a solution. Here is a link you might find useful; http://www.kommers.se/Documents/dokumentarkiv/publikationer/2014/Moving-to-Sweden_webb.pdf

Thanks.

I myself posted a few months ago also a question about private medical insurance in sweden at this very forum and what it would cost us (for me and my family)...up till now NO respons.
Apparently private healthcare is not very good develloped in Sweden and therefore not much used. At least that is my observation.

Here is what a friend of mine did when he went to Sweden last year to obtain a Personnummer.

He just accepted ANY job that was arround (thats right...ANY job) just to get a Personnummer. What happens after a couple of weeks or months if you get fired or quit your job is not important. What is important is that a PN is longlife valid!! So once you have one...you have it forever. The most simple way to obtain a PN in Sweden is....to get a job.

You can also start your own business in Sweden but thats another story.

The Swedish system has a lot of red tape, so you´ll need to think out of the box to beat that. The only thing which you can do WITHOUT a PN in Sweden is to buy a house (or infact any property). Even a car you can´t buy because without a PN you can´t register it in Sweden in your name.

cheers
