Do any Americans living in the Netherlands have any experience with FATCA? Especially if you are a dual US/Netherlands citizen like me. After 20 years I am afraid that my bank is going to close my accounts I have a US Social Security number. I am wondering if my bank will allow me to at least keep my standard account that is used for paying bills. Anyone have any experience here?

I have lived in the Netherlands for more than 20 years and have dual U.S.-Netherlands citizenship.

The bank that i have had for all this time is ABN AMRO. I am not sure what their policy is for accepting Americans as new customers. Some banks flat out say "no Americans".

In my case, I only had to provide my U.S. social security number and that was satisfactory.

Good luck. This is a real mess for U.S. citizens who want to live abroad.

Did you find a Dutch bank that will offer new bank accounts to U.S. citizen students? My son is going to the Netherlands for university and will need a bank.
