What do I need to know before moving to Malta?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Malta, they said:

"Malta is a small island nation in the Mediterranean Sea, and is known for its warm climate and rich culture. Expats should be aware that English is the official language of Malta, and that Maltese is also widely spoken. Expats should also be aware that Malta is a very safe country, with a low crime rate. Additionally, Malta has a strong economy and a high standard of living. Expats should also be aware that Malta is a very popular tourist destination, and that the cost of living can be quite high. Finally, expats should be aware that Malta is a very welcoming country, and that there are many opportunities for expats to make friends and explore the culture," said one expat in Malta.

"Come out on holiday first, with the intention of doing some research into the area you want to live. Coming from Britain or Ireland, it's much less of a culture shock than most destinations in the Med.
