What do I need to know before moving to Dortmund?

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Dortmund, they said:

"Dortmund is a vibrant city located in the heart of the Ruhr region in western Germany. It is known for its industrial heritage, its football team, and its lively nightlife. Expats should be aware that the city is quite spread out, so having a car or bike is recommended. The cost of living in Dortmund is relatively low compared to other German cities, making it an attractive option for expats. The city is well-connected to the rest of Germany and Europe by train, and there are also several international airports nearby. Expats should also be aware that the weather in Dortmund can be quite unpredictable, with cold winters and hot summers. Finally, it is important to note that the German language is widely spoken in Dortmund, so it is important to have a basic understanding of the language before moving to the city," replied a member in Dortmund.
