What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Hanoi?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Hanoi about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"1. Make sure to research the best hospitals and doctors in Hanoi for your delivery. Ask other expats for recommendations and read online reviews. 2. Consider taking a childbirth class to learn more about the birthing process and what to expect. 3. Make sure to have a plan for postpartum care, such as a doula or midwife, and a support system of family and friends. 4. Research the laws and regulations regarding maternity leave and childcare in Vietnam. 5. Familiarize yourself with the cultural norms and expectations for childbirth and parenting in Vietnam. 6. Have a plan for how you will manage the language barrier, if applicable. 7. Make sure to take care of yourself during pregnancy and postpartum. Consider joining a prenatal yoga class or a support group for expat mothers. 8. Have a plan for how you will manage the cost of childbirth and postpartum care. 9. Make sure to have a plan for how you will manage the paperwork and visa requirements for your baby," remarked another expat who made the move to Hanoi, Vietnam.
