Ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care and childbirth. Check if your insurance covers newborn care as well. Find a reputable obstetrician and hospital for your prenatal care and delivery. It's advisable to choose a doctor who speaks your language to avoid any communication barriers. Prepare for the possibility that not all medical staff may speak English, so it might be beneficial to learn some basic Spanish medical terms or have a translator. Understand the local customs and practices around childbirth. In El Salvador, it's common for women to breastfeed and for the baby to sleep in the same room as the parents. Register the birth with your home country's embassy or consulate to ensure your child's citizenship rights. This should be done as soon as possible after the birth. Ensure your child receives all necessary vaccinations, which are available at local health centers. Lastly, connect with other expat parents in Metapan or wider El Salvador.
