What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Leiden?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Leiden about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"1. Make sure to research the healthcare system in the Netherlands and familiarize yourself with the process of registering for a midwife or doctor. 2. Consider joining a local expat group or forum to connect with other expats who have had babies in the Netherlands and can provide helpful advice. 3. Take advantage of the many resources available to expats in Leiden, such as the Expat Center Leiden, which offers information and support for expats. 4. Make sure to register your baby with the municipality as soon as possible to ensure that they are eligible for healthcare and other benefits. 5. Consider enrolling your baby in a local Dutch language course to help them become more comfortable with the language. 6. Take the time to explore the city and find out what activities and services are available for families with young children. 7. Make sure to take advantage of the many parks and outdoor spaces in Leiden, as well as the many cultural and historical attractions. 8. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it - there are many organizations and services available to expats in Leiden," said a member in Leiden, The Netherlands.
