What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Dongguang?

Answer this Question

We asked people in Dongguang if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...

"When visiting Dongguang it is important that visitors show respect for the local culture. It is important to dress appropriately, cover shoulders and knees when outside and respect local customs around religious buildings and sites. With regards to communication, it is important to be aware that Chinese people may be hesitant to give honest opinions or criticism, so care should be taken to not be too direct. Lastly, as the people of Dongguang may be very generous, gifts should be offered and received with two hands," remarked another expat in Dongguang, China, China.

"I can't think of any off hand, but am sure there must be one or two...but the Chinese are very forgiving in that sort of thing...they will laugh at you when they see your embarrassment but are quick to forgive," said a member in Dongguang, China.
