"Expats in San Andres Island often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as the majority of the population speaks Creole English and Spanish. The laid-back, island-time mentality can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a more fast-paced lifestyle. Additionally, the high cost of imported goods can be a shock, as can the lack of certain amenities and services that are common in more developed areas. Some expats may also struggle with the local cuisine, which is heavily based on seafood and coconut. Lastly, the cultural differences in terms of social norms and expectations can be difficult to navigate for newcomers," wrote a member who made the move to San Andres Island, Colombia.
