What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Salinas. They wrote...

"Expats in Salinas often find the local culture of speaking Spanish to be the most demanding adjustment for them to make. Additionally, the conservative and traditional values of the community can be in stark contrast to what expats are used to in their home culture. Also, as a beach town, some expats find the relaxed lifestyle to be difficult to adjust to and at odds with their own work ethic. Lastly, the area is frequented by many tourists, making navigating the cultural differences between tourists and locals difficult," explained one expat living in Salinas, Ecuador, Ecuador.

"Parties start early and go on all day long. People feel free to just drop by to say hello - nice idea, but very different from what I'm used to, so it still throws me a bit. Anything to do with government or banking is mired in red tape and moves slowly. Banks are particularly frustrating because they act as if they really don't care if they have your business or not," said another expat in Salinas, Ecuador.
