What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Puerto Lopez. They wrote...

"Expats in Puerto Lopez often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The slower pace of life can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a faster, more structured lifestyle. Additionally, adjusting to the local customs and traditions can be difficult, particularly during festivals and holidays when the town becomes very lively and noisy. The lack of certain amenities and services that they might be used to in their home countries, such as high-speed internet or certain types of food, can also be a challenge. Lastly, understanding and navigating the local bureaucracy for things like visas, property ownership, and taxes can be complex and frustrating for expats," said another expat in Puerto Lopez, Ecuador.
