What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Catamayo. They wrote...
"Expats in Catamayo often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. They may also struggle with adjusting to the slower pace of life, which is common in many South American countries. The local cuisine, which is heavily based on corn, potatoes, and meat, may be difficult for some to adapt to, especially for those with dietary restrictions or preferences. Additionally, expats may find it challenging to understand and navigate the local customs and social norms, which can be quite different from their own. Lastly, the lack of certain modern amenities and services that they may be accustomed to in their home countries can also pose a challenge," said a member in Catamayo, Ecuador.
