What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Izmir?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees what they find the most challenging about retiring in Izmir. They wrote...

"One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Izmir is the language barrier. Although many people in Izmir speak English, it is not as widely spoken as in other parts of the country. Additionally, the cost of living in Izmir is higher than in other parts of Turkey, making it difficult to live on a fixed income. Furthermore, the healthcare system in Izmir is not as advanced as in other countries, making it difficult to access quality medical care. Finally, the cultural differences between Izmir and other parts of the world can be difficult to adjust to, making it difficult for retirees to feel at home," commented one expat who made the move to Izmir, Turkey.
