What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Leiden?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees what they find the most challenging about retiring in Leiden. They wrote...

"One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Leiden is the cost of living. Leiden is a relatively expensive city, and the cost of housing, food, and other necessities can be quite high. Additionally, the language barrier can be a challenge for those who are not fluent in Dutch. Although English is widely spoken, it is not the primary language, and it can be difficult to navigate the city and its services without a good understanding of Dutch. Finally, the weather in Leiden can be unpredictable, with cold winters and wet summers, which can be difficult to adjust to for those who are used to more temperate climates," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Leiden, The Netherlands.
