Violent crime, such as robbery and assault, is a major problem in the city, and tourists are advised to take extra precautions when visiting. Drug-related crime is also a major issue in Rio de Janeiro, with gangs and organized crime groups operating in some areas. In addition, there is a high rate of property crime, such as burglary and car theft," commented one expat who made the move to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
