Is there a lot of crime in Roatan?

Answer this Question

We asked people if there is a lot of crime. They answered...

"Roatan, does experience crime, but it is generally considered safer than the mainland of Honduras. The most common types of crime are petty theft and burglary, often targeting tourists. Violent crime is less common, but it does occur, particularly in less developed and less touristy areas of the island. Drug trafficking is also a problem in Roatan, as it is in many parts of Central America. However, the local authorities in Roatan have been making efforts to increase security and reduce crime, particularly in areas frequented by tourists. It's always recommended for visitors to take standard safety precautions, such as not displaying valuable items in public, locking doors and windows, and avoiding isolated or poorly lit areas at night," commented one expat who made the move to Roatan, Honduras.
