What advice do overseas retirees have for others considering retiring abroad?
When we asked what advice they have for others considering retiring abroad, they advised...
"Retiring abroad can be an extremely exciting and rewarding experience. It is important to do research and thoroughly consider different countries, cultures and lifestyles before committing to a location. Speak to people who have already retired abroad and ask them what they like, dislike and recommend. Make sure to consider legal and financial requirements when selecting a country to retire in, such as residency and taxation rules. Having plans in place for medical care and language immersion is important, as well as the cost of living in the new country. Additionally, research to find out what expatriate communities exist so you can create a support network abroad. It is also beneficial to explore potential places to live, how to obtain visas and the best methods of transportation. Most importantly, enjoy the journey and make sure to have fun," said another expat in Hamilton, Bermuda.
