What advice do overseas retirees have for others considering retiring abroad?

Answer this Question

When we asked what advice they have for others considering retiring abroad, they advised...

"When considering retiring abroad, make sure to research the cost of living in the countries you are considering as well as the political climate. Research to understand the types of visa you'll need and learn about the healthcare system of the country. Ensure there is easy access to banking, insurance, and doctor appointments. If you plan to stay in the country long-term, make sure to get familiar with the local laws, cultural norms, and expectancies. Talk to people who have already retired abroad and pick their brains for information and tips. Also consider the availability of recreational activities in the area and how you will stay connected to family and friends back home. Finally, it is important to be flexible and open to unexpected changes in plans or surprises when deciding to retire abroad," said another expat in Copenhagen, Denmark.
