The climate in Salento is mild and pleasant throughout the year, but it can get quite chilly at night due to its high altitude. Colombia has a reputation for crime, but Salento is generally safe. However, it's always important to take standard precautions and stay aware of your surroundings. Colombian cuisine is diverse and delicious, but it may take some time for your stomach to adjust to the local food. Colombia has a slower pace of life, which can be a big adjustment for those used to a fast-paced Western lifestyle. Colombia's visa and residency requirements can be complex, so it's advisable to consult with an immigration lawyer or expert before making any decisions. Finally, it's important to remember that while Salento is a beautiful place, it's also a small town with a slower pace of life, which may not suit everyone's retirement plans," commented one expat who made the move to Salento, Colombia.
