What do I need to know before moving to Trang?

Answer this Question

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Trang, they said...

"Expats moving to Trang should be aware that the primary language spoken is Thai, so learning some basic Thai phrases would be beneficial. English is not widely spoken, especially outside of the tourist areas, so communication might be a challenge. The cost of living in Trang is relatively low compared to Western countries, but higher than in other parts of Thailand. Trang has a tropical climate with high humidity and temperatures ranging from 25 to 32 degrees Celsius throughout the year. The rainy season is from May to December, with the heaviest rainfall typically in September and October. Trang is not as touristy as other parts of Thailand, so it offers a more authentic Thai experience. The city is known for its beautiful beaches, caves, and waterfalls, as well as its delicious local cuisine, particularly its famous roast pork. Healthcare facilities in Trang are adequate for minor illnesses and injuries, but for serious conditions, you may need to travel to a larger city like Bangkok. It's recommended to have comprehensive health insurance that covers medical evacuation. Public transportation in Trang is limited to buses, minibuses, and songthaews (shared taxis), so you might want to consider renting or buying a motorbike for getting around. Thai people are generally friendly and welcoming to foreigners, but it's important to respect their customs and traditions. This includes dressing modestly, especially when visiting temples, and avoiding any criticism of the Thai royal family, which is illegal. Finally, expats should be aware that Thailand has strict laws on visa overstays, so it's important to keep your visa status up to date," remarked another expat in Trang, Thailand.
