What do I need to know before moving to San Ignacio?

Answer this Question

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to San Ignacio, they said...

"San Ignacio is a small town in western Belize, located near the Guatemalan border. It is a popular destination for expats due to its proximity to the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich and the nearby Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. Expats should be aware that the town is quite rural and the infrastructure is not as developed as in other parts of Belize. English is the official language, but Spanish is also widely spoken. The cost of living is relatively low, but expats should be prepared to pay more for imported goods. The climate is tropical and humid, with temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to the mid-90s Fahrenheit. Expats should also be aware that the town is prone to hurricanes and other extreme weather events," said another expat in San Ignacio, Belize.
