What do I need to know before moving to Tamarindo?
When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Tamarindo, they said...
"Be aware of the climate - Tamarindo is tropical, with temperatures averaging in the high-70s and low-80s year-round. This can be quite hot, so sun protection and drinking plenty of water is important. Take time to learn some of the local language - Tamarindo is a friendly, bustling tourist town, where most of the locals speak Spanish. Learn a few basic phrases and shop, bargain, and dine among the locals. Be aware of the area’s natural hazards – landslides, floods and hurricanes are all possible. Familiarize yourself with the risk and the actions you can take to stay safe. Learn about the culture prior to your move – research local customs, festivals, and recreational activities. Take precautions with your safety – just as you would in any other city you visit, be aware of your surroundings, exercise reasonable caution, and use common sense. Research housing options prior to arriving - make sure to visit in person, check the neighboring area and local transportation options, and make an informed decision before signing a lease. Understand the local job market - Tamarindo is a tourist-driven economy, so the majority of jobs are tied to the hospitality, retail, or service industry. Expect to find higher demand during the dry season months of December to April," said a member in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.
